Sprite conversion guide

LF2 sprites are in bmp and must be converted to png for use with F.LF. If you are converting sprites that worked with LF2, it is strongly recommended to preserve the color palette, because
  1. we preserve every detail of LF2
  2. the converted png is the smallest, about half of bmp
mtPaint is the perfect tool for doing pixel arts, and most importantly it is open source (we always recommend open source tools). you can download it here.
Step 1:
Open the bmp, and observe the color palette. from the following image we can see that index 255 is the black.
Step 2:
click File then Save As. select the File Format as png, and set the Transparency index as the index of black. Here we use 255. Usually color palette is sorted by intensity and black is the last on the list.
Step 3:
click Ok. That's it.


(It is good to have tutorials for more popular software, like Photoshop or Fireworks, but I dont have them installed.)
